On April 6, 2026, Google began rolling out the first minor update for ChromeOS and ChromeOS Flex devices, including Chromebooks running the stable version of ChromeOS 146.
This update upgrades supported devices by moving the Chrome browser version from 146.0.7680.169 to 146.0.7680.184, and the platform version from 16581.42.0 to 16581.54.0.
If you’re using a Chromebook right now, you might already see this update available. Google has officially pushed the first refinement update for ChromeOS 146, and while it may look small on paper, it plays an important role in improving the overall experience.
Now, before you get too excited – this isn’t a feature-packed release. But as we’ve seen with recent ChromeOS updates, that’s not really the goal anymore. Instead, this update focuses on something arguably more important: making your Chromebook run better, smoother, and more securely.
What’s New in ChromeOS 146.0.7680.184
Even though this is a minor update, there are still a few important things happening under the hood.
Typically, minor ChromeOS updates don’t introduce new features. Instead, they focus on weekly security patches, bug fixes, and stability improvements. This update follows the same pattern.
With version 146.0.7680.184, Google has:
- Updated the Chrome browser to the latest build
- Fixed minor bugs affecting system performance
- Improved overall stability and reliability of ChromeOS
At the time of writing, Google hasn’t shared detailed changelogs for this release. However, based on previous updates, these improvements are designed to ensure a smoother and more secure experience across supported devices.
Wrapping Up
As of now, I’ve already received this update on my own Chromebook. If you haven’t received it yet, don’t worry – updates are rolled out in phases, so it may take some time to reach your device.
If you want to check manually, simply head to Settings > About ChromeOS and click on Check for updates.
Overall, while ChromeOS 146.0.7680.184 may not bring any new features, it’s an important update that keeps your device running efficiently and securely and that’s what really matters in the long run.
