How to Connect an Android Phone to a Chromebook Using Phone Hub

If you’re a Chromebook user with an Android phone, you’re in luck. Chromebooks are designed to work seamlessly with Android devices, making it easy to connect and share information between the two.

Requirements for Phone Hub

The Phone Hub on a Chromebook lets you connect your Android phone to your Chromebook, offering features like quick access to notifications, recent messages, photos, Android apps, and other useful Android functions directly from your laptop.

However, to use Phone Hub on a Chromebook, you need to meet the following requirements:

  • ChromeOS Version: ChromeOS 89 or later.
  • Android Version: Android 5.1 or later.
  • Google Account: The same Google Account must be signed in on both devices.

How to Connect Your Android Phone to Your Chromebook

Before setting up Phone Hub to connect your Android phone to your Chromebook, make sure you meet all the requirements. Also, ensure that both your Chromebook and Android phone are updated to the latest software versions and connected to the same Wi-Fi network for better compatibility and optimal performance.

After that, follow the steps below to set up Phone Hub:

1. Enable Bluetooth on both devices to establish a connection between your Android phone and your Chromebook.

2. Make sure both your Android phone and Chromebook are signed in with the same Google account.

3. Next, open Settings on your Chromebook from the App Launcher.

4. Click on the Connected Devices option, and you will see the Android phone option. Click on the Set up button to connect your Android phone to the Chromebook.

5. Now, you will see the device selection window. From the drop-down menu, select the Android phone you want to connect. Once you connect your phone, you can access features including Phone Hub, Smart Lock, Wi-Fi Sync, Instant Tethering, and more.

6. To continue, click on the Connect button.

7. Enter your Google Account password and click on the Done button. After that, wait for the process to complete.

8. Once you see the ‘All set‘ window, click on the Done button, and you are ready to use Phone Hub on your Chromebook.

How to Use Phone Hub on Your Chromebook

After you have successfully paired your devices, you may need to configure some settings to use Phone Hub and establish a smooth connection between your device and Chromebook. Here’s how:

1. Open Settings on your Chromebook.

2. Click on the Connected Devices option and select your connected Android phone.

3. Here, you will see the Android phone settings, turn on the Phone Hub toggle to use it.

4. Now, you will see the Phone Hub option in the bottom right corner of your Chromebook shelf. Click on it to access the Android phone options.

5. From here, you can turn on your phone’s hotspot, enable location, and manage notifications. You can also access recent Chrome tabs.

6. If you want to view your phone’s photos and stream your Android apps on your Chromebook, you need to enable the option. To do this, go to Settings > Connected devices and select your Android phone.

7. After that, click on the Set up button next to Recent photos, Notifications, and Apps.

8. To use your phone’s apps on your Chromebook, make sure your phone is nearby and unlocked, and that both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are turned on.

9. After that, click the Next button and follow the on-screen instructions to set it up.

Note: The Stream apps on your Chromebook feature is not available on all Android phones. Here is the list of supported devices.

10. Once done, you will get a notification on your phone. Click on it and allow access to notifications, photos, and media apps.

11. After that, you are ready to view your photos and use your phone’s apps directly on your Chromebook.

How to Remove Your Phone from Phone Hub

Phone Hub is a useful feature on Chromebooks that allows for seamless integration with your Android phone. However, there may come a time when you want to disconnect your phone from your Chromebook, whether it’s for privacy, troubleshooting, or simply because you’re switching devices.

Here’s how to remove your phone from Phone Hub on your Chromebook:

1. Open Settings.

2. Click on the Connected Devices option and select your Android phone.
