How to Delete Google Web and App Activity on Chromebook

Did you know that Google keeps track of your activities on the internet? It monitors your web and app activity to speed up searches and provide personalized experiences across Google products like Search, Maps, YouTube, and more. However, simply using Incognito mode or deleting your browser history won’t keep your data private.

Many people mistakenly believe that clearing their web search history is enough to stay safe and anonymous. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. Both your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and Google can still track your identity, even when you’re browsing in incognito mode.

How to Manage Your Google Activity Controls

It is possible to turn off tracking, Google provides an option to disable Web & App Activity.

Chromebook is a cloud-based device developed by Google that runs on Chrome OS. Since Google applications are commonly used on Chromebooks, these apps often track your web and app activity by default.

Your activity, including search and browsing history, will continue to be recorded unless you manually disable it. To turn off Google Web & App Activity on your Chromebook, follow these steps:

1. Open the Google Chrome browser and visit myactivity.google.com.

2. This will take you to your Google My Activity page.

3. Here, you can view the status of your Web & App Activity, Location History, and YouTube History. By default, all of these options are turned on.

4. To control your Google Activity, click on Web & App Activity and select the Turn off option.

5. In the pop-up window, click Got it to confirm and finish.

Turning this off means Google will stop saving your searches, Maps activity, Chrome browsing history, Assistant interactions, and Google Play usage.

You can also turn off other types of activity tracking, such as Location History and YouTube History. To do this, simply click on the activity you want to disable, for example, Location History. Then click Turn off, confirm your choice in the pop-up window, and finally click Got it to complete the process.

How to Delete Google Activity on Chromebook

The steps above will only turn off the activity tracker, giving you a level of privacy by preventing further recording of your online activities.

However, if you want to take a more comprehensive approach and ensure the complete removal of your Google activity, including past records, follow the steps below:

1. On the My Activity page, click the main menu button and select the Delete activity by option.

2. Select the time range. To remove everything, choose All time.

3. You’ll now see a list of Google products. At this point, you can either select specific products from which you want to delete your activity or choose All products to delete everything at once.

4. Click Next, then Delete to confirm.

And that’s it, your Google activity has now been completely cleared. That’s how you can easily delete your Web & App Activity on a Chromebook and take control of your privacy.
