ChromeOS 136 is officially out! Yesterday, we discussed some of the new changes and improvements we noticed, and now we also have the official release notes from Google. It took a little longer for them to show up, but we’ve got them now.
Google has confirmed a new update to Quick Share that we mentioned in our previous post. Here’s what the official announcement says for ChromeOS M136:
As early as ChromeOS 136, Quick Share extends Visible to everyone mode duration to a maximum of 10 minutes from 5. This feature allows your device to share files with and receive files from Android devices and other Chromebooks. Users can set device visibility, enter Visible to everyone mode, toggle Quick Share, and go to the Quick Share settings page, all from quick settings.
If you’re constantly moving files between your phone and your Chromebook, this extended sharing time is a small but welcome change. No more rushing to finish sharing in 5 minutes.
Enable the New Quick Share UI Right Now
The updated Quick Share UI isn’t enabled for everyone yet. It’s rolling out gradually via a server-side change, which means your Chromebook might not show it right away. But if you’re like us and don’t want to wait, there’s a way to turn it on manually via Chrome flag.
Here’s how to enable the new Quick Share UI right now:
1. Open Chrome on your Chromebook.
2. Type chrome://flags into the address bar and press Enter.
3. Use the search bar on the Flags page to find #quick-share-v2. Alternatively, you can go directly to chrome://flags/#quick-share-v2.
4. From the dropdown next to the flag, choose Enabled, then click Restart.

5. Once your device restarts, the new Quick Share UI will be active, giving you faster access to sharing controls right from Quick Settings.

ChromeOS 136 Brings a New Quick Share UI
Also, on a release note, Google has a friend reminder: this update and the features that come with it will be rolling out gradually over the next few days. So don’t worry if it’s not available on your device just yet. You can manually check by going to Settings > About ChromeOS > Check for updates. It’s great to finally have official confirmation for ChromeOS 136.
