With the latest version of ChromeOS, you can now integrate OneDrive directly into your Chromebook’s Files app. This means you can easily access both your OneDrive and Google Drive files in one place – no need to switch between apps.

Although Chromebooks and Microsoft’s cloud services usually work well together, occasional glitches can interrupt your workflow. The good news is that there are several quick and effective ways to fix these OneDrive issues.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through five proven methods to get OneDrive up and running again on your Chromebook.

Fix OneDrive Issues on Your Chromebook

If you’re trying to access OneDrive on your Chromebook and it’s not working properly, refusing to sync, load files, or sign in, you’re not alone. Follow these troubleshooting methods to fix it.

1. Restart your Chromebook

Many temporary glitches can be resolved just by rebooting your device. If OneDrive isn’t loading or responding as expected, click the time, Wi-Fi, and battery icon in the bottom-right corner, then select the power icon and choose Restart to reboot your Chromebook.

Wait a few seconds, then turn it back on. Now try accessing OneDrive again -sometimes, that’s all it takes.

2. Update ChromeOS

Running an outdated version of ChromeOS can cause compatibility issues with apps like OneDrive and Microsoft 365. Make sure your Chromebook is up to date:

1. Click the Launcher icon.

2. This will open the App Drawer. Look for Settings and open it.

3. In the Settings window, click on About ChromeOS, then click Check for updates and install any available updates.

Once your device is updated, restart it and try accessing OneDrive again.

3. Reconnect Your OneDrive Account

If OneDrive was working fine before and suddenly stopped syncing or displaying files, the issue might be with your account connection. To fix this, you can remove the access and reconnect the OneDrive integration into the Files app. Here’s how:

1. Open the Files app on your Chromebook.

2. Click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner and select File settings.

3. In the settings panel, click on the OneDrive option.

4. You’ll see an option to Remove access. Click it, and OneDrive will be disconnected from your Chromebook.

5. After that, return to the Files app, click the three-dot menu again, go to Services, and select Connect OneDrive.

Connect OneDrive

6. The ‘Connect to Microsoft OneDrive’ window will appear. Click Connect to OneDrive and sign in using your Microsoft account.

Once reconnected, your OneDrive files should appear again in the Files app, ready for access.

4. Install the Microsoft 365

If you’re using OneDrive only on your Chromebook and it’s not working properly, it could be due to the Microsoft 365 app not being installed. OneDrive integration often relies on having the Microsoft 365 app set up on your device.

If you’ve already added OneDrive to the Files app and it’s still not working, try installing the Microsoft 365 app through the Apps & Games store (formerly known as the App Mall). Here’s how:

1. Click the App Launcher icon, then open the Apps & Games app.

Open Apps & Games

2. In the search bar at the top, type Microsoft 365 and select it from the results.

3. Click the Install from Web option, then click the Install button and wait for the process to complete.

4. After that, open the Microsoft 365 app from the App Launcher and sign in with your Microsoft account.

5. Once you’re logged in, you’ll see the Microsoft 365 dashboard. From here, click on the Apps tab to view all available apps. To use the OneDrive app, simply click on it, and you’re ready to use it.

5. Use the OneDrive Web Version

If all else fails, you can always access OneDrive through your browser. The web version supports all the basics and usually runs smoothly on Chrome.

Open the Chrome browser on your Chromebook, go to onedrive.live.com, and sign in with your Microsoft account. After that, you can view, upload, or download files directly from the web interface.

Troubleshooting OneDrive on Chromebook

OneDrive issues on a Chromebook can be frustrating, but they’re usually easy to fix with a few quick steps. Whether it’s a simple reboot or a fresh install of Microsoft 365, you should be back to accessing your cloud files in no time. If you’re still running into problems, consider resetting your Chromebook settings.
