Adobe Photoshop on Chromebook makes it possible to edit images, create graphics, and work on creative projects directly from ChromeOS. However, sometimes Photoshop may stop working properly, refuse to load, crash unexpectedly, freeze on startup, or show a blank screen.

If Photoshop is not working on your Chromebook, don’t worry. In most cases, the issue can be fixed by updating ChromeOS, clearing site data, or reinstalling the Photoshop web app.

In this guide, we will walk through all the working methods to fix Photoshop not working on Chromebook.

How to Fix Photoshop Not Working on Chromebook

There can be several reasons behind the issue, including:

  • Outdated ChromeOS version
  • Corrupted cookies or site data
  • Temporary browser glitches
  • Problems with the Photoshop web app installation
  • Account synchronization issues
  • Internet connectivity problems
  • Corrupted browsing data

No matter what is causing the issue, the troubleshooting methods below should help you get Photoshop working again.

1. Update ChromeOS

The first thing you should do is update your Chromebook to the latest version of ChromeOS. Older ChromeOS versions may cause compatibility issues with Photoshop.

To update ChromeOS:

  1. Click the Launcher icon.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. In the left sidebar, click About ChromeOS.
  4. Select Check for updates.
  5. Download and install any available updates.

After updating ChromeOS, restart your Chromebook and try opening Photoshop again.

2. Restart Your Chromebook

Sometimes temporary system glitches can prevent Photoshop from working correctly. Restarting your Chromebook refreshes background processes and system services.

To restart your Chromebook:

  1. Click the time section in the bottom-right corner.
  2. Click the Wi-Fi, battery, and clock area to open the Quick Settings panel.
  3. Click the Power icon.
  4. Select Restart.

Once your Chromebook restarts, try using Photoshop again.

3. Clear Photoshop Cookies and Site Data

Corrupted cookies and cached site data are one of the most common reasons Photoshop fails to load properly on Chromebook.

To clear Photoshop cookies and site data:

  1. Open Photoshop on your Chromebook.
  2. Click the three-dot menu icon on the app window.
  3. Select App info.
  4. Click Cookies and site data.
  5. Select Manage on-device site data.
  6. Click the Delete button to remove all stored site data.
  7. Click Done.
  8. Select Reload.

This refreshes Photoshop settings and removes corrupted temporary files.

After that, sign back into your Adobe account and check whether Photoshop works properly.

4. Check Your Internet Connection

Since Photoshop on Chromebook mainly works as a cloud-based web application, a stable internet connection is important.

To check your connection:

  1. Open Chrome browser.
  2. Visit a few websites.
  3. Make sure pages load without issues.

If your internet is unstable:

  • Restart your Wi-Fi router
  • Reconnect to the network
  • Switch to another Wi-Fi network if possible

Once the connection is stable, relaunch Photoshop.

5. Sign Out and Sign Back Into Adobe Account

Sometimes account synchronization issues may prevent Photoshop from loading correctly.

To fix this:

  1. Open Photoshop.
  2. Sign out of your Adobe account.
  3. Close the application.
  4. Restart the Chromebook.
  5. Sign back into your Adobe account.

Now try using Photoshop again.

6. Reinstall Photoshop on Chromebook

If clearing cookies and site data does not fix the issue, reinstalling Photoshop may help resolve corrupted installation files.

To uninstall Photoshop:

  1. Click the Launcher icon.
  2. Locate the Photoshop application.
  3. Right-click on it.
  4. Select Uninstall.
  5. Check Also delete browsing data.
  6. Click Uninstall again.

This completely removes Photoshop and its stored data from your Chromebook.

7. Reinstall Photoshop Using Chrome Browser

After uninstalling the app, you can reinstall it directly from Adobe’s website.

To reinstall Photoshop:

  1. Open Chrome browser.
  2. Visit Adobe Photoshop Web App
  3. Sign in with your Adobe account.
  4. In the address bar, click the Install icon.
  5. Select Install.

ChromeOS will now install Photoshop as a web app on your Chromebook.

Once installed:

  1. Open Photoshop.
  2. Click Let’s Go.
  3. Start using the application.

In most cases, reinstalling fixes startup and loading problems completely.

8. Clear Chrome Browser Cache

Since Photoshop runs inside Chrome browser technologies, browser cache issues can also affect the app.

To clear Chrome cache:

  1. Open Chrome browser.
  2. Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete.
  3. Select Cached images and files.
  4. Choose All time from the time range.
  5. Click Clear data.

After clearing the cache, restart Chrome and launch Photoshop again.

9. Disable Browser Extensions

Some browser extensions may interfere with Photoshop functionality.

To disable extensions:

  1. Open Chrome browser.
  2. Type chrome://extensions in the address bar.
  3. Disable extensions one by one.
  4. Restart Chrome.

Now check whether Photoshop works correctly.

10. Free Up Chromebook Storage

Low storage space can cause apps and web applications to behave unexpectedly.

To free up storage:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Device > Storage management.
  3. Remove unnecessary files and apps.

You can also clear the Downloads folder and remove unused Android apps.

After freeing storage, restart the Chromebook.

12. Use Photoshop in Incognito Mode

If Photoshop works in Incognito Mode, the issue is likely caused by cached data or extensions.

To test this:

  1. Open Chrome browser.
  2. Press Ctrl + Shift + N.
  3. Open Photoshop in the Incognito window.

If it works properly, clear your browser data and disable problematic extensions.

13. Perform a Hard Restart

A hard restart can fix deeper ChromeOS glitches affecting apps and web services.

To perform a hard restart:

  1. Turn off your Chromebook.
  2. Press and hold the Refresh key.
  3. While holding it, press the Power button.
  4. Release both buttons when the Chromebook starts.

After rebooting, launch Photoshop again.

Final Words

Photoshop not working on Chromebook can be frustrating, especially when you need to edit images or work on creative projects. Fortunately, most issues can be fixed easily by updating ChromeOS, clearing cookies and site data, restarting the Chromebook, or reinstalling the Photoshop web app.

If one method does not solve the problem, continue with the next troubleshooting step until Photoshop starts working properly again.

Once fixed, you should be able to use Adobe Photoshop smoothly on your Chromebook without crashes or loading problems.
