Need to let someone borrow your Chromebook without giving them access to your personal stuff? That’s exactly what Guest Mode is for. It’s a privacy-friendly, quick-access profile that lets others use your Chromebook without messing with your files, extensions, or settings.
If Guest Mode is turned off on your device, don’t worry, it’s easy to turn it back on. In this guide, we’ll walk you through exactly how to enable Guest Mode on your Chromebook, why you might want to use it, and how to disable it again if needed.
Enable Guest Browsing on Your Chromebook
Guest Mode is a handy feature that lets someone use your Chromebook without accessing your personal files, apps, or browser history. Once they sign out, everything they did, downloads, browsing activity, and settings, gets wiped clean automatically.
It’s the perfect solution if you want to lend your Chromebook to a friend or family member for quick, temporary use without worrying about your privacy.
Here’s how to enable Guest Mode on your Chromebook:
1. Click on the App Launcher icon, then search for and open the Settings app.
2. In the left sidebar, click on Privacy and Security, then select Manage other people.

3. Find the option labeled Guest browsing and toggle the switch on.

How to Test If Guest Mode Works
To use Guest Mode, first sign out of your current session. On the login screen, you’ll see an option at the bottom labeled Browse as Guest.
Click it, and just like that, you’re in Guest Mode. It’s a simple, secure way to let someone use your Chromebook without accessing your personal information.
Here’s how:
1. Click on the Clock, Wi-Fi, and Battery icons to open the Quick Settings.
2. Click on the Power icon and select the Sign out option.

3. Now, on the login screen of your Chromebook, click on Browse as Guest.

How to Disable Guest Mode on Chromebook
Once the session is over, exiting Guest Mode is quick and easy, just access the Quick Settings and select Exit Guest.
Keep in mind that anything the guest does, like downloads, logins, or changes to settings, will be automatically erased when they exit Guest Mode, making it a hassle-free way to keep your Chromebook clean and secure.

If you decide you no longer want to allow Guest Browsing, simply go to Settings, find the Guest browsing section, and toggle it off. After that, the Browse as Guest option will disappear from the login screen.
