How to Take Screenshots and Record on Chromebook

Chromebook is the best machine for student and media consumption. If you find some information or anything that you want to save as a screenshot or want to capture a screen recording video, then there is an option; to do so.

Doing it on Chromebooks can be a little confusing; for someone switching from another platform. Especially considering how different the keyboards are from those on Mac or Windows PC. Don’t worry; here is a detailed guide on; how to take screenshots and record on a Chromebook.

How to Take a Screenshot on a Chromebook

Firstly, let us discuss how we can take a screenshot on a Chromebook. It is a very straightforward method. You don’t need to install any third-party apps. It is a built-in tool for Chromebook, introduced on ChromeOS 89.

Here are the steps you need to follow:

1. On the shelf, click on the clock to open the  Quick Settings menu. Here, select the Screen Capture icon. To take a screenshot, make sure that the content you want to capture is on your screen.

2. It will open the Screen Capture tool. Select whether you want to capture all of your screen, a single window, or a specific part of your screen.

3. After you select the option, click the Capture button on the screen.

4. Once captured, the screenshot will show up in Tote on your shelf and will automatically save in the Downloads folder.

How to Record Your Screen on Chromebook

If you want to make a guide video or record the screen, you can follow the same steps to capture a screencasting video on a Chromebook.

For that, follow the below steps:

1. Select the video option instead of the screenshot option. 

2. Similarly, choose the screen, a single window, or a specific part of your screen, you want to capture.

3. Then click on the Capture button. Wait for the countdown to complete and record the screen.

4. To save the screencast, click the red stop button on the Shelf. It will automatically save the video in the Downloads folder.
