ChromeOS users were excited when Google finally introduced rounded corners to the interface with the release of ChromeOS 133. It gave Chromebooks a sleek, modern look that felt more in line with other operating systems. But if you’ve recently updated to ChromeOS 135, you may have noticed that those smooth, rounded edges are suddenly gone. While this change doesn’t impact functionality, it’s a clear step back in terms of visual appeal and overall user experience.
The good news? There’s still a way to bring back the rounded corners UI using Chrome Flags. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to re-enable this feature and restore that clean, polished aesthetic to your Chromebook.
What Happened to Rounded Corners in ChromeOS?
Let’s take a quick look back. In ChromeOS 133, rounded corners were introduced and enabled by default, with no flags required. They remained in ChromeOS 134, continuing to give the interface a more refined and modern look.
But with the release of ChromeOS 135, those rounded corners suddenly disappeared. Google hasn’t explained the rollback, but it’s likely due to visual glitches or unfinished animations.
Still, the feature remains buried behind a Chrome Flag, so you can bring it back with a quick tweak. Some ChromeOS users, mainly Chromebook Plus device owners, still have the rounded corner UI after updating to the latest ChromeOS 135.
How to Enable Rounded Corners on Chromebook
Here are the steps you can follow to re-enable rounded corners on your Chromebook using the flags:
1. Open the Chrome browser on your Chromebook.
2. In the address bar, type: chrome://flags and press Enter.
3. In the search bar at the top of the page, type: Use rounded windows or go directly to the flag by pasting this URL: chrome://flags/#rounded-windows.

4. From the drop-down menu next to the flag, select Enabled.
5. Once you’ve enabled the flag, restart your Chromebook to apply the changes.

After your device reboots, you’ll notice that windows now have smooth, rounded corners, giving your UI a more modern and polished look.
Use Rounded Corner Windows
The history of the rounded corners feature on Chromebooks has been a bit of a rollercoaster. A few releases ago, the rounded corners were introduced, and with the latest ChromeOS 135 update, they’ve disappeared. Still, we can enable them from the flags.
So, there you have it! The journey of the rounded corners continues. While it’s a bit odd that they were removed and then brought back, at least we can enjoy them once again on our Chromebook devices.
