Ways to Use WhatsApp on Your Chromebook
To get WhatsApp working smoothly on your Chromebook, start by updating your device to the latest version of ChromeOS, this helps avoid any compatibility issues. You have two easy options: either install the Android version of WhatsApp from the Google Play Store, or use WhatsApp Web by creating a convenient shortcut. Also, I’ll show you one bonus method that might come in handy.
1. Using WhatsApp Android App on Chromebook
If your Chromebook supports Android apps, and most modern ones do, you can install the official WhatsApp Android app directly from the Play Store. However, you’ll need to enable Google Play Store support first.
Once you’ve set up the Play Store, follow these steps to install and use the WhatsApp Android app on your Chromebook.
1. Open the Play Store from your Chromebook shelf or App Launcher.

2. In the search bar, type WhatsApp, then click on WhatsApp Messenger from the results.
3. Click the Install button and wait for the installation to complete.

Note: If you want WhatsApp Business instead, just search for it and install that version.
4. Once the installation is complete, you can either click Open from the Play Store or launch it from your App Launcher.

5. When you open WhatsApp, you’ll see the Welcome to WhatsApp screen. Select your language, then tap Agree and Continue.

6. To link your WhatsApp account, open WhatsApp on your phone and tap the three dots or go to Settings if you’re using an iPhone. Then select Linked Devices and tap Link a Device. Now, scan the QR code displayed on your Chromebook screen to complete the connection.

You’re all set to use WhatsApp on your Chromebook. If your Chromebook includes a microphone and camera, you can easily make and receive voice or video calls just like you would on a phone.
2. Using WhatsApp Web on Chromebook
If you don’t want to install the app, you can simply use the WhatsApp Web interface in your browser. You can check messages and chat as usual. If you prefer, you can also install the PWA (Progressive Web App) version of WhatsApp Web, which is lightweight, fast, and not as resource-hungry as the full Android application.
Here’s how to use WhatsApp Web on your Chromebook.

Now you can pin WhatsApp Web to your Chromebook shelf for quick access and open it like any other app, no need to keep a browser tab open.
